I live and work in DeLand, Florida. My husband and I own and run a printing and nameplate company, and I create artwork when I am not at work at the plant. Graphics production is high-tech and sometimes high stress; hands-on artwork is low tech and therapeutic.I was the kind of kid who spent her Saturdays cutting, gluing and drawing all day. I received my B.A. in fine art from Stetson University in 1976, and my M.A.T. in Humanities in 1978. I created my first St. Nicholas sculptures in 1993 as donations to a fine arts auction at our local Museum. I was delighted (and surprised!) at the active bidding for the works. People just seemed drawn to their quirky faces and to their larger-than-normal size. I began to create more pieces and to sell them locally in DeLand's historic downtown district. What I most enjoy is creating custom works, designed to fit a particular space. When I begin work for a client, I enjoy knowing if the work will go at the base of a stairwell, on a hearth, or maybe in the center of a foyer. I construct the work with its placement in mind, envisioning how the colors and textures will fit the surroundings. Because I am both an artist and a business person, I know how important it is to be able to rely on someone whom you've contracted for work. I take deadlines seriously and honor commitments. I will not accept orders for more work than I am sure I can produce. And I will personally handle all of the necessary arrangements for shipping and delivery. I want happy clients who will call again or refer me to a friend. It is an honor to be asked to create artwork for someone's home. I hope that you will allow me to create an Original Nick for you.
